Hi just read in another post that the
Santa Maria
is no longer available....
I am booked to go on it in June and would like to if this is true
Does anyone have any information before I email Travel Agent
Many thanks everyone!

I was on the bay just this past weekend and we sailed past the
Santa Maria
several times. Yes it is still sailing.
What was mentioned on another thread was perhaps there were no space
available on the dates the poster was travelling.

Oh no!! Looks like
Santa Maria has changed their
itinerary, only one night on board the junk now and one night on Cat
Ba Island. We were really looking forward to two on nights on the
junk. Does anyone know of any junks about the same price as Santa
Maria that we can stay on both nights? We liked the idea of alot of
kayaking too.

Not sure what price you have been quoted but if you look at Halong
travel there is a 2 night trip to Halong for $230 pp and it looks
very good. Let me know what you think
Kayaking in Halong Bay is a MUST!!! Make sure you get on a boat that
allows you to do this - it's such a beautiful and fun way to take in
such incredible surroundings!!!

We stayed on the
Santa Maria for 2 nights; we did an
hour of kayaking on the first afternoon as did all passengers), and
90 minutes on the next day (second night). Then they left us on a
hot beach for around 2 hours (38 centigrade, little shade). So
really only 2.5 hours kayaking for 2 night

The problem with the
Santa Maria is that it is the only
mid range Junk - the others are way more expensive, or much cheaper
but dubious quality. So what do you do? I dont think the SM was
worth the price - basically $100 US a person per night; the food was
great (but we are not big eaters!) but the rooms were not worth it.

...yeah, the problem is, it looks like the
Santa Maria
has changed the itinerary. According to Halong Bay Online (and I
believe that’s who runs the junk) now you spend the second night on
Cat Ba Island. We were really looking forward to two nights on the
junk. I’m glad I haven’t booked yet but now the search begins to
find something similar, any ideas would be appreciated.
