The Dragon Pearl is being upgraded, the Lagoon Explorer is full, and I haven't heard back from Santa Maria. Tropical Sails has suggested the Phoenix Cruiser.

Has anyone been on this boat? How does it compare? It's about the cost of the Santa Maria at $79 per person. I believe it's run by South Pacific Travel, and is a new boat with 16 rooms.

I too was looking into taking the Halong Phoenix Cruiser, but I havent seen a review of this junk for the past 6 months since the it was mentioned in this forum first time.

More than that, I found an incredible review about Halong Phoenix Cruiser that there are rats aboard, and bad services from some one. I do believe that it is post from a real traveler. links: <mondomoneo.wordpress.com/category/vietnam/>
I would not risk our holiday, and better choosing a reputation company which recommended from previous travelers. just our point of view.

Oh Dear- I have booked a HB trip on this Phoenix Cruiser and now I am reading there are mice- lots- on board! I am really panicing as we have a 3 and 5 year old.
Please, has somebody recently been on the Phoenix Cruiser with any positive or more negative opinions?

I have been on the Phoenix "Deluxe" Cruiser earlier this year, and no I didnt spot mice on board. Infact I thought its actually cleaner than the ever popular Santa Maria Cruiser, but food and service are not as good.

We survived the trip- mice free. It was actually really nice although it was completely different from what we booked, or what we were told we booked. DH, 3 and 5 yo all loved it. It was good value for money, and the one thing they did get right were our meal requests. So all in all I say it was a successful trip.

has just come back from halong bay with Deluxe-Halong Phoenix Cruiser. and i must confess that it is not the best boat but this is a quite good boat. the staff were friendly and thoughtful. especially a beautiful sundesk on the boat, i liked this place the best. there was no place more than that to see the scenery od Halong bay. that's wonderful and up to now i have still remember this feeling. if you have limited buget and need a place for relax, i think that Deluxe- Halong Phoenix Cruiser will meet your requirements.

One more thing that you may not like while travelling with this cruise as I see its bus everyday in the old quarter with too many people in it. Some keep their big bag in front. So if you have discount for your children, still ask and make sure that each of your child will have a seat on the bus. It is a long drive for children. Also, if you are the last people to get on the bus, I am not sure if you will be able to sit together.

I have not travelled with them but this is what I see everyday. So pls double check with the bus matter.
