Has anyone lately been on the Ginger on Halong Bay? It looks good on the website - worth $US200/head for 2 days/1 night?

Hi, my family and I are going to Vietnam in this June, we want to visit Halong and overnight on a luxury junk. Is Ginger cruise a good choice ? Would like to hear some feeds back. Many thanks.

Was on the Ginger April 2007. At the time was the best boat on the bay. From memory paid about us$220 each. That included private car transfers with the car dropping us back at the airport on the return trip.

The company that operates Ginger has new baots that are probably more luxurious. However would still recommend the Ginger. Great food, staff and the rooms were better than expected.

Could lie in Queen size bed with a great view to the bay.

Recently, I was on the Red Dragon Junk and it was really good. Honestly, it is not upto Ginger or its sister Jasmine standard but the cruising route, the staff and the brand new rooms are very nice. Up to now, this is the only junk that cruise full time in Bai Tu Long Bay, away from all other boats. There is no cave visit but a very interesting floating village and many pure beaches. This junk offer free kayaks as well. I am going to send my customers there soon :-). If you travel with a family, this junk has a triple room which is rare on other junks and save your money by renting two rooms.

Red Dragon Junk is a new Junk in Ha Long bay, isn't it? We are wondering about the service and quality between Ginger Cruise and Red Dragon Junk, which is a better one? we do like a Deluxe Junk with perfect services.

I would say the Ginger is very well organised. It has its own beautiful waiting room and pior (sharing with Jasmine, Indochina Sails and Valentine). Staff are well trained and nice and professional. Good service but not enough staff to make excellent service (meals are served very slowly).

Deluxe Junk is very small, brand new but the boat operator is one of the first operator in the bay. Staff are also well trained and most friendly. Great chef on board. For the differences in service, I will not pay that much more for Ginger.

Looking to do 2 day 1 night Ginger cruise at end of December but internet prices vary so much. I am always wary of taking the cheapest option as we will probably not do this particular trip again and would be very disappointed if things went wrong. Any advise?


Read the schedule and tour program carefully. You will be served what you pay. Don't worry. The price depends on number of people in your group as well. The more the cheaper. Price for a good Ginger Cruise tour (2 days 1 night) for 2 persons is around 220USD/pax. December is peak season so the price might be a bit higher. Have fun!

Shop around and get quotes from different travel agents. We used First Choice at www.cruiseshalong.com  and paid $170 per person in early April.
